Automatic transmission-equipped cars also get steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The 2024 Honda Civic has two engines. Lower trims use a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower, and higher trims get a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with 180 horsepower. Either engine is mated to a CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive.
Volkswagen also offers the 2024 Jetta GLi. This gets 228 horsepower from a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It is available with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Honda’s equivalent is the 200-hp 2024 Civic Si Sedan. This uses the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine but in a higher state of tune.
For 2024, every Jetta is equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE safety suite. Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are standard. The suite then contains an active blind-spot monitor, pedestrian monitoring, rear traffic alert, lane change assist, lane-keeping assist, and emergency assist. Furthermore, the 2024 Jetta’s adaptive cruise control system comes with Travel Assist. This semi-autonomous, hands-on mode works from 0 to 95mph. It accelerates, brakes, and steers the vehicle to follow the road and stay in its lane. Some of these advanced features work best on automatic transmission-equipped variants. Meanwhile, the 2024 Civic doesn’t have some of these systems, or they are only provided for higher trims.
