VW is bringing back the Rabbit, at least for one special edition model
2019 Volkswagen Golf GTI Rabbit Edition trim
Sometimes it feels like a bit of heritage has been lost when we refer to older generations of the Golf as, well, the Golf. Those who drove this humble vehicle back in the 1980s will remember it as the VW Rabbit. With the design changing so much over the decades, those who aren’t in the know might not even realize it’s the same model. Of course, outside of the United States, the Golf has always been the Golf. Still, there’s a bit of nostalgia for us when we hear the old Rabbit name, and VW clearly knows this. That’s why there will be a 2019 Volkswagen Golf Rabbit Edition trim for the upcoming model year.
Highlights of the 2019 VW Golf GTI Rabbit Edition
We expect there will be more details on the Rabbit Edition once the 2019 model year is officially released, but we do know a few bits and pieces at this time. Style features will include black wheels, mirror caps and rear spoiler, plus limited edition floormats and trim-specific seating. Four classic exterior colors – Urano Gray, Pure White, Cornflower Blue and Deep Black – will top off the style features and options.
There’s no confirmation on any power upgrades for the Rabbit Edition, though the GTI was updated to have standard 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque output this year and we expect the same for 2019.
Standard features that include adaptive LED headlights and keyless access with push-button start have been confirmed, so we’d expect the model to also offer the upgraded Car-Net App-Connect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
